History
The club can trace its history back to 1972, when, playing as a Sunday side they competed for three very successful years in the North Staffs and District Sunday League. In 1976 the change to Saturday football was made and the club kicked off the new season in the Longton League, making an immediate impact by winning the league and cup double at the first attempt. In 1978 the club stepped up again, this time joining the North Staffs Alliance League, and a little over twelve months later they took over the lease or their present headquarters in Hilderstone Road. In 1984 Meir K.A. became founder members of the Staffs Senior League and after a few years consolidating they finally made their mark by taking the league title in 1989, losing only 2 of their 28 fixtures. Although only 7th place was achieved the following year the club enjoyed perhaps their finest hour when winning the Walsall Senior Cup, beating Rushall Olympic 2-1 after extra time and a replay. A second Senior League title was won in impressive style in 1991 but sadly the club missed out on a unique treble when they were beaten in the League Cup and Staffs Vase finals. The Walsall Senior Cup final was again reached in 1992 but this time the club lost out to Armitage. More importantly however, the year marked yet another step in K.A. history, as they made the move to join the Midland Combination Premier League. After finally lifting the Staffs Vase in 1993, the decision was made in summer to raise the necessary funds to purchase their Hilderstone Road headquarters from owners Bass Mitchells and Butler. The club then embarked on an ambitious redeveloped scheme. The playing surface was completely re-drained during the 1995 close season and after finally winning planning permission from the local council, Meir completed the second phase of the operation by erecting floodlights in readiness for the 1996 season. The 1996/97 season proved to be far Meir's best since joining the Midland Combination and ten straight League and Cup victories finally saw them take runners up spot in the league. The club also reached the semi final stages of the League Challenge Cup but lost out on penalties to eventual winners Knowle F.C. Meir did eventually reach the League Challenge Cup Final the following year but lost out to Bolehall Swifts. Also that year a semi final defeat at home to Dr. Martins Premier League side Atherstone United sadly saw K.A.'s excellent run in the M.F.A. invitation Cup come to an end. Although hotly tipped to do well in 1998/99 Meir's challenge slipped away at the end of the season after a run of disappointing results and they finally finished in sixth place. They did however make a third appearance in the Walsall Senior Cup Final, but were narrowly beaten by hot favourites and reigning cup holders, Blakenall. Meir suffered a major loss on the 17th July 2000, Club President Peter Bott tragically died due to an accident at the football ground. In 2003/03, after a disastrous start to the season, when Meir picked up two points out of a possible 36, Meir finished a credible 10th with 69 points after a championship equalling run of 8 successive victories in Feb/March and their best ever score in the Combination when they defeated Southam United 11-2 away from home in May.
